Channeling your inner Luna Lovegood

I was rewatching Harry Porter the other day. In one scene students had taken all of Luna Lovegood's possessions and hidden them. How frustrating would that be!

But her reaction was a perfect example of non-attachment and letting go. Instead of being annoyed at having to look for everything, or letting it attack her own sense of self worth in wondering why they were picking on her, or allowing a broad spectrum of feelings and emotions take charge, instead of being sad about her plight she simply remembered some advice her mother gave her that what was meant for her would come back to her, and off she skipped to get some dessert.

I absolutely love how carefree she moves through life. A life remember that was far from perfect. She lost her mother at a young age. Socially she would be considered an 'outsider' (and much the better for it by the way). Life would not be easy for Luna if she let it get to her but she doesn't.

Good for her you might say. She is a fictitious character and doesn't have to face the real world. But the truth is that this path is open to all of us if we can only learn how to allow it. But where to start?

The first thing to do is to get back in touch with yourself again. Your outer self, your inner self, the entire landscape that makes up you and who you are. Start to notice, and notice who is noticing. Move your awareness backwards into the seat of the wittness. That part of you that can see and feel its way through your outer and inner experiences, who can feel your emotions, who can hear your thoughts and inner chatter. The part of you who notices and witnesses everything without opinion or judgement.

Next welcome home all parts of yourself and deny attention to none. And when all of those feelings, emotions, thoughts, memories, and such know that there is a compassionate ear to hear them, they will start to feed through their messages. Slow at first to gague how you react to them, then when you are ready the heavier stuff will appear to be released.

When you approach life like this then nothing that happens to you will be too much to deal with because you will be your own best support. You will see these things as gifts and invitations to let go another part of you that you have been holding on tightly to. As opportunities to release something that you were once not strong enough to face.

If you are still unsure where to start Pema Chodron's book When Things Fall Apart and Michael Singer's The Unteathered Soul come highly recommended. And you can of course reach out to chat about how my practice can help you soften and quieten a busy mind and body long enough to hear your inner truth.
